Just like contrast adds variety to a design and guides the viewer around the piece of art, contrast in life creates expansion and desire guiding us through life. In art there is a strong contrast when you place a vivid color next to a dull color, or a rough texture next to a smooth texture, or a hard edge next to a soft edge, and so on. Diversity in life gives one discernment on what one wants and what one doesn't want through a variety of life experiences. Contrast in art is representational of life and how it makes one feel. Contrast in life also evokes emotion and strong feelings representing our emotional scale from fear all the way up the scale to joy. Therefore, one might conclude art and life is equivalent to expansion.
